INTERCEDE: Incentivising future forest ecosystem services and incomes in Europe

INTERCEDE aims to unlock the full potential of forest ecosystem services (FES) in Europe, which deliver an array of benefits, including climate mitigation, biodiversity support, water regulation, and more. Currently, European forests fall short of their potential in providing FES, with their economic value remaining often unexplored. Moreover, the effects of climate change and the evolution of the societal demand for FES are expected to further affect this gap.
INTERCEDE will address these challenges by seeking to develop adaptable and scalable Market-Based Instruments policies. This can only be achieved by systematically connecting research to policy and practice, creating a multi-actor aligned Transdisciplinary Forum as the key interface. The project consortium brings together small and medium-sized enterprises assisting forest owners in FES management practices, organisations representing landowners and environmental interests, and researchers who excel in modelling and valuing FES, in the economics of instrument design, and in governance and policy analysis.

Prospex Institute's Role
Prospex Institute leads the stakeholder engagement process throughout the project. The main component of the engagement strategy is the Transdisciplinary Forums - multi-actor spaces where the consortium confronts with external stakeholders (users or providers of FES) and exchange input and feedback to move forward with INTERCEDE’s objectives in a collaborative approach.
The INTERCEDE project received funding by the EU's Horizon Europe research and innovation program under grant number 101135159.
